What comes up must come down; Potential on the ground and the place shut down

History; There was always a chance when L would die, and successors were mandatory to continue what the original had started: Lower the world crime rates in the name of Justice. In the Wammy's House, an orphanage designed to harbor intelligent and gifted orphans, all of whom are potential successors to L. The struggle to reach the top was very hard and enduring for the children, but there were only few who had stood at the top, having surpassed all of the future Ls. Yet, one of these few was not satisfied. He wished to, rather than surpass his peers, surpass the enigmatic L himself. This person wanted to surpass L so much that he had sacrificed his peace of mind to emulate and adopt characteristics of the great detective.

That person, that person who believes he is beyond L, is B (assumably for “backup”?). But unlike L, or any other Wammy orphan, B held a sort of 'gift'. Or as another would call it: curse. He was able to immediately discover one's name and death date by simply looking at the other. B would eventually use such a gift as an advantage in a plan to prove he would surpass L, and kill him.

Without a trace or any visible evidence, B had left Wammy's House for Los Angeles, plotting to begin murders there that would attract L's attention. But L was already aware of B's absence and had begun to search for him. It was only after several murders by B that the “L.A.B.B. Murder Case” had begun, and L was determined to catch 'B.B.', with the assistance of Top FBI Agent: Naomi Misora.

After some time, Naomi had met with L in person to help investigate on the B.B Case. Progress had been made, until one day, Naomi had noticed a strange clue that revealed something very shocking. The whole time, the L she had been staying with was B! B's plan was almost foiled, for everyone would see his face and practically everything would be ruined. Except for the fact, that his last victim would be: Himself. B lit himself on fire, and his face was obscured, but he did not die. He was confined, and ironically, died of a heart attack. L would die that way years later.

Personality; Unlike the stereotypical serial killer, B almost regrets even laying a finger on his victims. His gift, which are shinigami eyes, allow him to see other's time of death, and that is when he kills people, at the date of their deaths. The usual killer is cold-hearted and reeking with malice, but B is a little bit of the opposite, though not entirely. He may choose to joke around and behave the way a gentleman would around women, often not taking things too seriously when in a way he does so to garner a reaction, comparable to how L often lies to garner a reaction.

B completely adopted L's appearance and quirks, but he has his own quirks that would set him aside from L. Almost always he indulges in strawberry jam, and would crawl on the floor to get around. B has quite a strange laugh, and a smile that is close to a nightmarish grimace. This suggests he could be the offspring of a human and a shinigami, though nobody else knows that, not even B. And having adopted L's appearance, it is a symbol of how B completely worships L like a god.

Even if B somewhat regrets first-or-third degree murder, he continually does so to the point that it is his own 'hobby', like how L considers catching criminals as lowly as B, a 'hobby'. And since killing is a hobby to B, he sees no harm in toying with carcasses and experimenting, messing around with the bloody messes that once breathed with life. So overall, B is a soft-spoken sociopath; always doing what inside, he almost truly regrets.

His time in confinement, embarrassed and humiliated after his plans were blasted into smithereens by Naomi Misora, made B long for death more than any other man. And it was this isolation and the thought of having lost to L, that crazied him up a little bit more. Enough to confront the most inhuman of characters, and perhaps provide L with a much greater challenge than before, knowing now that he's actually here.

Strenghts/Abilities; B possesses the dreaded Shinigami Eyes, blood-red pupils that grant him the gift of seeing one's date of death and real name. This often gives him the advantage when he intends to murder, and the eyes' power are what perpetually motivate him to go kill others, having noticed how some people do not die on their intended death dates. B also is quite the expert with short-edged blades, especially knives, daggers, throwing knives, and razor blades. Often he uses such objects as his instruments of torture and bloodshed.

Weaknesses; The very mind of B is one that is very fragile. So very fragile that he could gain influence from almost anything. His murderous nature having stemmed from the hardships he, as an orphan, had been put through, which were the tedious duties as one of L's own successors in the Wammy's House. These hardships escalated further when a comrade: A, was reported to have committed suicide. Perhaps it was these troublesome years that turned B into the assailant that he is.

B is also a schizophreniac, behaving oddly and as morbidly insane as any serial killer, even if he has a certain degree of remorse. And like L, B remains human, with anything quite dangerous and highly fatal capable of killing the man. Since B loves L (and hates him) out of all things, it is easy to make him do things that he may be led to believe 'concerns L'.
